The name Enoch has Hebrew origins and means "dedicated" or "initiated." In the Bible, Enoch was the son of Jared and the father of Methuselah. He is best known for being taken up to heaven by God before his death, making him one of only two people in the Bible to not experience physical death (the other being the prophet Elijah). Enoch is also mentioned in other religious texts, including the Book of Enoch, which is considered an important non-canonical text in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. In modern times, Enoch remains a relatively uncommon name but is sometimes chosen for its Biblical associations.
